2013 is setting out to be another great year for Fevers--the electro-indie-rock band based in Ottawa are currently in the studio working on their debut full length record. It will be released in May 2013, with a single and video preceding it. They’ll be playing a lot of shows in support of it, so keep your eyes open for tour date announcements!

Looking back on 2012, we can just imagine what the new year will hold for Fevers--they covered some serious ground in their first full year as a band! With the launch of their self-produced EP, Passion Is Dead, in October 2011, they saw the world open up to them. They had some great press from critics in Canada, the States, and Europe alike and played Ottawa Bluesfest, Tulip Festival, Capital Pride, JUNOfest, and the Festival de l’Outaouais Émergent. In doing so, they got to share the stage with artists like Plants and Animals, Dirty Projectors, Ariane Moffatt and Hotel Morphée. Perhaps the most bittersweet moment of the year was gracing the cover of the last edition of the Ottawa XPress.

The band’s title track “Passion is Dead (Long Live Fashion)” took on a new life in 2012 as Fevers released their debut music video for the track, one that was made possible by local creative producer Bryan “Shooter” McNally, an IndieGoGo campaign, and the generosity of Ottawa businesses and contributors. The local support was further expressed when the video won First Prize at the Ottawa International Film Festival. Sarah Bradley (vocals, keys), Martin Charbonneau (keys, guitars), Jim Hopkins (bass), Colin MacDougall (guitar, vocals and keys) and Mike Stauffer (drums, sampling) are proud to be part of this community and are excited to put it on the map of the electro scene.
The Box Tiger
Formed in late 2009, The Box Tiger is an indie rock band from the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario founded by singer/songwriter Sonia Sturino. Although young, the sound comes off as mature and well organized, while still maintaining heart, intensity, honesty and a sense of fun. The Box Tiger manages to keep a D.I.Y. indie aura, while simultaneously creating pop sensible hooks that make the music accessible to the masses.
Those Gulls
Those Gulls
Those Gulls are Andrew Grosvenor (guitar, vocals), Kate Schroder (synth, vocals), Jake Ting (guitar), Kurt Borutski (bass), and Peter Zachar (drums). Formed in 2007 by Andrew and Peter as a two-piece recording project, a constant desire to experiment and evolve has shaped Those Gulls into its current five-piece setup.

Those Gulls’ sound is a blend of snarly post-punk, airy electro-pop, and upbeat dance-rock. Most recently, the band has been compared to The Joy Formidable, M-83, and Sonic Youth.

Those Gulls’ new album, Forevermore, represents the most complete realization of the music they have long imagined. Drawing together the disparate but complimentary influences of the current lineup and unifying them in a common thread, the new record surges with energy and a powerful sound that is continually reaching ever higher.
